In a statement released today, Australian Fair Pay Chairman Professor Ian Harper again reiterated that the Australian Fair Pay Commission had not made any decisions regarding minimum wages.
Professor Harper said: “The Australian Fair Pay Commission contracted Professor Phil Lewis to undertake a survey overviewing recent Australian and international research on minimum wages. That survey has been received by the Commission and the information contained will be considered along with a vast range of other information the Commission will receive from submissions, consultations and research.”
Professor Harper stressed that the views expressed in The Australian today are Professor Lewis’s own opinions and should not be seen as reflecting the views of the Australian Fair Pay Commission.
“Speculation about what the Australian Fair Pay Commission may do is premature,” Professor Harper said. “The closing date for submissions is not until July 28 and consultations and other research continue during July and August.”
