About the Commission

The Australian Fair Pay Commission is an independent body responsible for adjusting federal minimum and classification wages to promote the economic prosperity of the people of Australia. It was established under the Workplace Relations Act 1996.

The legislation identifies two primary functions for the Commission:

(i) wage-setting; and

(ii) promoting public understanding of matters relevant to the Commission’s functions.

There are five Commissioners who make up the Commission. They are Professor Ian Harper (Chair), Mr Hugh Armstrong, Mr Patrick McClure AO, Mr Mike O’Hagan and Professor Judith Sloan.

The Australian Fair Pay Commission is supported by the Australian Fair Pay Commission Secretariat which performs functions including commissioning research, managing communications and coordinating consultations to assist the Commission in its functions.
